Catalyst: Duro Wicks & Chicago Hip Hop is an independent documentary film about how Duro “Shame Love Tempo” Wicks fell in love with Hip Hop and helped give it a home on the Chicago music scene of the early 1990’s. It examines what made Hip Hop blow up in Chicago so much later than in other cities, how a tiny 100 watt college station became Chicago’s Hip Hop radio powerhouse, why it was so difficult for a young Black entrepreneur to get a party started, and a time when social, political and economic conditions ultimately proved to make Duro’s dream unsustainable, even though it was more successful than anyone ever imagined it could be.
The Chicago Reader called Duro Wicks “one of the godfathers of the Wicker Park hip hop scene.” The Chicago Tribune called him “a large man with a charismatic presence… at the center of the kinetic circus.” Duro describes himself as “The Catalyst” when talking about how he created a place for a generation of kids to show up and prove. “Before I did my own thing, I had nowhere to go,” says Duro “so my whole thing was let’s do our own shows.” Duro fell in love with hip hop long before it was easily accessible in Chicago, so he wanted to create a place for people with similar passions to gather. After several false starts, he finally got some traction running the first weekly Hip Hop open mic night in the city at a basement club called The Lower Links. It brought in hundreds of kids every week from all over the city and suburbs, which was unheard of in the segregated Chicago of early ’90’s. After a brief, but wildly popular run, the club ended up being a victim of its own success when neighbors and other business owners in Wrigleyville, unhappy with the growing number of Black kids hanging out in the street every week, took action and got the club shut down.
So the preview was so amazing. Thx to everyone that joined us virtually. Now it’s time for the perculater! Our kickstarter is on line.

After seeing the magnificent art works of Marcellous Lovelace I must admit there is a African Contemporary Artist who creates soulful expressions in the mold of Charles White and John Biggers in these modern times. His current showing Black Is Beautiful TV is Bad details the revolt from oppression and free form expression from an Indigenous People of African In an Assimilated America. The Works protest against racism, bigotry and gentrification while remaining beautiful in appearance. Please take the time to learn more about Marcellous Lovelace.
Thoughtful eloquence is a great way to describe “Time Travel Is Real (A Prelude To Japan...)” by Chicago producer Radius. A prelude to Japan is the landscape to envision yourself in as you listen to this fresh Afro-futuristic flavor. Radius has carefully taken a mix of soul, jazz and dance into playful drum patterns. Melanin Starburst is my favorite cut so far because it reminds me of my trips from Ghana to Tokyo over night stopping in Paris for a brief few hours, I’d have to even add that I hear some Sun Ra inspiration in here (ohh and listen for the change ups). All seven tracks have range balance and fresh elements of vocal samples throughout. Radius is on our radar look out for him and support this album.
Video from the prolific Infinito 2017’s Threatening Music X Brash and Abrasive an album of stories a collection of thoughts recorded. This time around Infinito 2017 totally details the relationship humans share with their Ego and Pride. The video is based on reflection of self in an isolated world. Cool D’s production captures the heartfelt jazzy scenario’s in the same fashion as Pharaoh Sanders or Thelonious Monk.
Truly Nobody Really Cares the video is only part of a short film by Marcellous Lovelace that’s based on the acceptance of being Alone forever minus any emotional response.

Threatening Music X Brash and Abrasive out now on Joe Left Hand Records
Album Notes: When making music in my view the ultimate goal is to love what you create and let your soul be the main component in the final output. ”Threatening Music X Brash and Abrasive = Masculine” minus the filler and without the added opinions of those that didn’t write the songs. ”Threatening Music X Brash and Abrasive” is what it sounds like when Infinito 2017 filters out all the voices of others and create completely from the internal. Infinito 2017 creates underground music that tells what he thinks over boom bap instrumentals. ”Threatening Music X Brash and Abrasive” is independent Hip Hop with no fashion, no mama man clowns, no love songs and no songs made to follow the template that rappers use to records music! This album is hardcore uncut raw Infinito 2017, the microphone and beats.
